baby doll basket. . .

This little doll basket is pretty much the only thing I made for Christmas. As soon as Dana released the pattern, I just knew that I had to whip one up to put under the tree. Glad I did since Syd loves it! She plays with it almost everyday and I love seeing the bright and happy colors. It's not a fast project as there are lots of pieces to cut and there is a bit of tricky sewing to get through but it's certainly do-able and I'm super pleased with the result. I think this makes an awesome gift for any kid!

The pattern includes all the info you need to make the basket as well as a mattress, pillow, and blankie. Absolutely adorable! It also includes 3 different sizes and I chose to make the large version. It fits Syd's larger Gotz dolls (similar in size to the AG dolls) as well as all of her smaller babies. I made the mattress reversible and used stripes that match the pillow on the flip side. Instead of making a fabric blanket, I ended up crocheting one in an effort to use up some of the gazillion balls of yarn I have sitting around. The only changes I made were hand sewing the binding onto the inside of the baby basket and making the straps differently. Also, I think it is safe to say that I might have an addiction issue when it comes to the floral print by Joel Dewberry. You'll probably find it making another appearance or two.

  2. My daughter loves the one I made her for Christmas, and it too often has a Lalaloopsy. Honestly, most surfaces in our home often have a Lalaloopsy! I love the dolls in your first picture - what are they? Did you buy them or make them?

    1. There are several Lalaloopsies around my house! The cloth dolls are Mooshka dolls and I found them at Target! Doll making is not one of my strong suits ;)

  12. Hi Vanessa,

You did a wonderful job with the basket. I'm having a little trouble finding the exact interfacing and batting that Dana recommends in Australia. Can I ask what you used?

    Thanks so much,

    Leigh

    1. There is a chart here http://www.sewsweetness.com/2012/05/all-about-bag-interfacing.html that shows Pellon products and comparable Vilene products. Hope that helps!

    1. Thanks! If I remember correctly, I skipped adding the fleece and used some interfacing instead. I made the handles like you would bias tape. Hope that helps!
