kcwc spring 2012 {part 2} . . .

I finished up 2 more things for Kids Clothes Week Challenge. I stuck to using knits and came up with 2 summer tops for the kiddo. One was super easy while the other was a bit of a challenge and I definitely see an 80's vibe going on. The jean cut off shorts aren't exactly a sewing project but solved the problem of my kiddo having too many pairs of jeans that either fit in the waist but are too short in length or are huge in the waist but the right length. So frustrating. Seriously, these are size 18 mth jeans and the child is 4 years old. Crazy.

notes:    fabric / used women's tops from Old Navy's clearance racks for both shirts below.

t-shirt pattern/ made by rae's flashback skinny tee -
left the neckline, hem, and sleeves unfinished a la flashdance. Used my serger instead of sewing machine.

tank pattern/ lil blue boo's racerback tunic/dress -
I left off the skirt part to make a top instead of dress since I didn't have enough fabric otherwise. Adding on the armhole and neck binding was kinda tough for me, mostly because the fabric was so thin and probably not as stretchy as it needed to be. Oh well! I think it turned out pretty well other than being a bit lopsided. Used serger. Added a little pocket to the front for fun.

  1. Sid looks super hip in these pictures. Your photography skills are competing nicely with your sewing skills! Love both shirts. The way the stripes on the neckline look on the bias is a really fun contrast. Great idea with the cut offs! Sometimes the easiest solution works best!

  2. Both of these tops are too darn cute and of course she doesn't hurt that one bit.hah.aha.aa..CUTE!!

  3. So cute!!!! Love both of them but the pink stripe is fabulous!

  4. I love both of these, Vanessa. Love the 80s vibe :)

  5. I LOVE the second top! I adore striped necklines when they're on the bias-LOVE!

  6. Loooooove the raw edges on the FBST (must copy), and love everything you sewed all week! Your little gal looks so COOL!

  7. Super cute! So many of the blogs I read have been participating in this challenge and its such great inspiration for making adult clothes more playful!
