Wonderful Things Blog Tour

Hello! Today is my turn on the Wonderful Things Blog Tour and I'm sharing what I made using fabric from Bonnie Christine's new collection, Wonderful Things for Art Gallery. I'm really drawn to bold and graphic design and two prints from the collection really caught my eye. They completely inspired my projects! Bonnie's fabric collections are always so beautiful and full of thoughtful details.

I recently released a new pattern, The Double Zip Pouch, and used the medium size as a starting point for a cross body bag. I've been needing a smaller bag that I could take along on trips to the park, etc. I normally carry a huge bag - which I love - but sometimes it's nice to bring along just the essentials. Since my wallet is huge and I knew I wouldn't need everything in it, I decided to add a "wallet" pocket on the front of the cross body bag. I honestly wasn't sure if I would be able to pull it off since I wasn't really sure how to approach the construction but I decided to go for it. Luckily it turned out how I envisioned it! It has 4 card slots, a pen pocket, two medium sized pocket (one behind the card pockets and another on the inside of the flap), as well as gussets to keep everything in place. I used two of my favorite zippers, a flap, and a magnetic snap as closures on the pocket. The back of the bag has a full width + height zipper pocket. Approximate dimensions of the crossbow bag are 10" wide x 10.5" tall.

I also made a key fob and a zipper pouch; both are super simple and self drafted. While I definitely enjoy quick and easy projects, I love the challenge of more complicated patterns. I'm one those people that tends to stress about all the things so when it gets to be too much, I like to swap the stress of things I can't control with the productive stress of sewing and pattern drafting. That is a wonderful thing to me!

Make sure to check out both Bonnie and Sarah's projects for the tour!

  1. That wallet pocket is genius! I am a huge cross-body bag fan, and this one is so cute. I love the fabric you chose for it, too!

    1. Thank you! The strap on my current HUGE bag is adjustable so I wear it cross body sometimes but it's rather bulky. I think this will be much better!!

  3. What a great looking bag! Do you think you might make a pattern? I'd have to do some calculating to figure out that front pocket, too, but it looks like you nailed it! I love them both.

    1. Thank you! I am hoping to do a pattern - need to do a bit of fine tuning first but fingers crossed I'll end up with a version that is easily reproducible :)
