nutta fabric shop blog tour. . .

I'm posting today as part of a blog tour to help promote a new fabric shop - Nutta Fabric! I actually got to meet and spend an afternoon with Shino, the owner; earlier this year before she moved back to Japan. We had a great time and I only wish we had realized we lived in the same area sooner. Luckily for us, she now has access to some amazing Japanese fabric and has opened a shop. Shino offered to send me some fabric from her shop to use for whatever I wanted to make. Decisions, decisions! I ended up choosing this cool linen / cotton blend in plaid and used it to make a Fawn Lily tunic for the kiddo.

fabric |  linen & cotton plaid in red and blue      pattern | fawn lily dress & tunic

I felt that the shape and details of the Fawn Lily pattern would be a perfect match for the plaid. To add a little visual interest, I cut the sleeves and skirt of the tunic on the bias. The fabric is a really nice weight and has a great texture which I think gives the tunic a fall/winter vibe. The tunic works really well under a cardigan and I'm thinking it'll be great layered over a long sleeved tee as well. It's been in the 70's this week so a cardi was definitely optional. No children were subjected to actual winter weather for these photos ;)

  2. Yes! This is simply gorgeous, Vanessa. Now I'm so envy of warm weather there. It's been so cold here in Japan, especially for me after coming back from Al. Thanks so much for joining in the tour and sewing beautiful top!

  3. Beautiful - making the skirt on the bias was a great idea. Love the way it looks with the cardigan, too.

  4. GORGEOUS!! Oh I love this so much, I just want to copy you stitch for stitch! Love that the skirt looks drapier since it's cut on the bias, and love how you used the plaid. Em gets a ridiculous amount of compliments on the first Fawn Lily I made her, I really want to make another! Anyway. You knocked this out of the park!

  6. The bias is a sure winner! Love your fabric choice, and I must go check out Nutta's shop. Sydney looks so super cute in this with the card and skinny jeans. So great that it can be worn through many seasons.
