pineapple persimmon dress | willow + co patterns

I finally got around to making this dress I've had in my mind for a while. I spotted this pineapple print fabric on Girl Charlee a while back and thought it would be perfect for sewing up a Persimmon dress. The fabric is peachskin and I don't think it's available anymore but there is a knit pineapple print here.  It was kind of tricky to work with because it doesn't want to hold a crease but I managed to get it to work. I made the size 4T and it fit perfectly other than it being a little short but that's only because I forgot to lengthen it. My kiddo is long and skinny and I almost always forget to lengthen patterns. Silly me. No worries though, she can wear shorts under it while it's still hot out and then she can wear it with leggings and a cardigan in cooler weather. The only change I made to the pattern was to make regular straps instead of ties.

I wanted to try out a new spot to take photos at and headed to the old "downtown" area of a city nearby. I was up for an adventure and the rest of the gang was not. The kiddo informed me that taking photos was boring and spent most of the photoshoot making farting noises (last photo) and sticking out her tongue. Never a dull moment.

Don't forget to enter the Willow & Co Back to School Sewing contest! You can link up your outfits through the end of Monday, September 1, 2004. There's still time to sew and enter! You don't want to miss the chance to win some really great prizes.

  4. This dress/top has been on my to-do list as well! I love this print and saw it on girl charlie too but I worked in several fabric stores over the years and remember peach skin as a fabric I hated sewing with. It's puffy (meaning the seams stay puffy) and doesn't hold a crease like you said! Polyester tends to not hold creases... I do love this dress out of this fabric though! It looks like you had no problems and told that fabric who's boss:). As usual your sewing skills shine through! I LOVE it. Now I need to get mine done.

    1. Thank you! I was determined to make it work and powered through ;) Puffy is the perfect description - my hem is definitely a bit puffy. I think I just need a little more practice with this sort of fabric.
