kcw | swingset tunic + clover shorts

The weather has been plotting against me lately when it comes to photo shoots. And driving. It seems we end up with a thunderstorm pretty much every evening. You know, the kind that comes out of no where and threatens to wash everything away. Anyways, we got about ten rain free minutes last night at the park so I was able to grab a few photos to share. This top. . .I'm a little bit in love with it!

Like I mentioned in yesterday's post, I used the Swingset Tunic pattern by Oliver + S. I was inspired by this tunic by Gail of Probably Actually -as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to make one. I went back and forth on what size to make - based on the size chart, the kiddo needed a size 3. I thought I should go up a size but didn't want to end up with something too big so a size 3 it was. It fits but won't for long. Bummer. The pattern only goes up to a size 5 but that means I still have two sizes to go through before the pattern is no longer an option. That will be a sad day! We need to petition to get this in the larger sizes because it's just that awesome. Construction was interesting and a tiny bit challenging in the armhole area but it came together beautifully in the end. I used Lennox Gardens Cotton Lawn in Porcelain Floral with a bit of Kona for the bodice lining.

I made a pair of Willow & Co Clover shorts to go with the top. These shorts come together quickly and are so cute! I made a size 2 with about an inch added to the length. I did kind of mess up on my fabric choice though. I ordered the fabric online (Denim Deluxe Twill Stripe) and didn't really know what I was getting. It's really too thick for this style of shorts, especially around the cuffs. Next time I'll stick with something lighter weight.

  1. fabulous outfit! I agree with petitioning O & S about grading this pattern up a few sizes - such a classic look. And looks great with the shorts - when the weather cools down a bit, this outfit will look perfect with the Aster cardigan:)
