random bits. . .

First things first, we have a winner for the Tumble Tee Pattern giveaway! Congrats, Mel (comment #3)! I've sent you an email. And since a blog post without photos is no fun, here are a couple of my kiddo on her first day of kindergarten. . .

To be honest, it's been kind of a rough week for me so far. Aside from the total lack of sleep - school starts crazy early here - I've just been a bundle of nerves. Today was the last day that we're allowed to walk the kids in to the school and their classrooms so tomorrow I'll have to say goodbye from the car and hope she finds her way on her own. I'm pretty much giving myself the rest of this week to figure out how to get to bed earlier and how not to be a nervous wreck all day and then it's time to suck it up and get to work!

I've got big plans for the regularly scheduled kid free time I now have. My sewing room is getting an overhaul. It's overdue for some new flooring, paint, new desk, more storage, etc. I desperately need an inspiring place to work. Then it's time to work on some more patterns. I thought I'd get a chance to work on those over the summer but that just didn't happen. My fingers are crossed that a spiffy new sewing room and regular work hours will be just the ticket for creativity and productivity.

Is it Friday yet??

  1. I identified myself so much in this post! I really need to set my ideas clear once she starts next week.

  2. Awww :( Hang in there! She'll do great and after some time the nerves will even out for both of you. My youngest is in 1st grade this year and I have been nervous the past two days because his class is in a whole new section of school and I was afraid he would get disorientated. I even told his teacher to keep her eye out for a lost boy LOL!. This is my 3rd boy too so you'd think I could handle it. Nope. It's a mom thing. We just have to have faith we've taught them well, know their school and trust that they will have a great teacher to go to in the morning.
Can't wait to see the overhaul of the sewing room ~ Cindy

  4. my "baby" starts Kindergarten next week as well, and my oldest started highschool. So I get you on the emotional wreck thing:) Why do they insist on growing up so crazy fast?!
Good luck with the sewing room overhaul - sounds like fun work!

  5. I know what you're going through, Vanessa. They start school when they turn 5 here in New Zealand, and the whole big birthday ( and organising a party), finishing with kindy and starting school was a very draining time for me. You worry for them, but I'm sure she'll be fine tomorrow; she looks like such a cool kid :) Have fun with the new sewing room, by the way!

  7. She is so cute! I walked my daughter to the door almost the whole kindergarten year and was shocked when she suddenly told me she could go it alone from the sidewalk. Now she hops out of the car and runs. There is something to appreciate about all of those stages. Hope your routine continues to get better and can't wait to see what you do with the extra time!
