Bye Bye 2010

Another year is almost over! Where does the time go? Anywho, we'll be ringing in the New Year on the               couch watching movies. Wild, I know but no crazy partying for this girl. I got that out of my system years ago. I wish everyone a safe and fun filled New Year's Eve!

So, I can't finish up the year without one last crafty post. This post almost didn't happen because I have been a total slacker and am still sort of surprised I managed to finish something in time! My little sister sent me a Kindle for Christmas (how cool is she?) and I was able to put it down long enough to sew up a cover for it. I couldn't very well leave it unprotected! This thing is like my new baby :)

Pattern by Birdiful Stitches
Outer Fabric -Chrysanthemum in Clay by Khristian A. Howell
Inner Fabric- Blue Ticking / Walmart

I found this pattern on Etsy by Birdiful Stitches. It's a simple pattern that fits the Kindle 3 really well. It is probably pretty quick to sew up but I wouldn't know since I decided to add a flap closure and messed up a few things that required some quality time with my seam ripper. No fault of the pattern. . . just me trying to sew while watching Netflix when I was too tired for multitasking! Despite being a test run, I do like how the cover turned out. I like that it has pockets and the Velcro flap closure makes it feel very secure. Also, while reading, I can flip the pocket side towards the back and attach the flap to it to keep it out of the way.

One last thing before I wrap things up. . .since reading and sewing don't seem to take up enough of my time, I decided I wanted to learn how to crochet too. I kept seeing all these pretty scarves, cowls, and gloves on Etsy and blogs that I was inspired to try to make my own. I found a stitch-along a few days ago and am working on my first piece: this cowl! I think crochet is a great craft to do while sitting in bed watching movies; perfect for those cold winter nights! Knitting might be next. Watch out!

  10. Ooh pretty cowl! What yarn are you using? Half the reason I learned to crochet was so I could make myself a cowl...

  11. I dream of being a crochet-er. I hear it is quick and easy unlike knitting which has been long and painful for me at least. The kindle cover couldn't have turned out any more perfect.
